EKTA Resource Centre, partnered JAGORI to organize a Southern Regional Consultation on “Safer Cities
for Women” on the 29th and 30th of August 2012 at the Mamalla Beach Resort in Mahabalipuram, Tamil
Nadu. The consultation brought together 42 representatives from non-governmental organizations,
researchers and academicians from Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Pondicherry and Tamil
Nadu. Focusing on issues concerning women’s safety, the consultation generated a sense of urgency to
build awareness across many levels and States of the need for mechanisms that create safer cities for
women and girls and thus promote overall development and gender justice.
